Blend sesame seeds, fenugreek seeds, coriander seeds, black peppercorns, coconut and red chilies into a fine paste. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a deep pan, add the blended paste and saute for 4 minutes. Add the vegetables, tamarind pulp, sambar masala, chili powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix it well. Add the washed rice, cooked dal and 5-6 cups of water in the cooker and mix it well and cook till the rice is cooked. For tempering Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Traditional Bisi Bele Bath Recipe

This  Bisi Bele Bath is a traditional spicy rice dish from Karnataka is quite addictive. This dish is served piping hot topped with lots of ghee and accompanied by fried papads and cool raita. Bisi means hot, Bele means dal and Bath means a dish made of rice. Bisi Bele Bath is dal and rice cooked together with tamarind and spice powder. Follow this recipe.

Ingredients

To Be Ground To A Paste

  • 1 tspsesame seeds (til)
  • 1/2 tspfenugreek (methi) seeds
  • 1 tspcumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1 tspcoriander (dhania) seeds
  • fewblack peppercorns (kalimirch)
  • 1/2coconut
  • 2whole dry kashmiri red chilies

Other Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cupsrice (chawal)
  • 1 cuptoovar (arhar) dal
  • 100 gmchopped mixed vegetables
  • 1-1/2 tbsptamarind (imli) pulp
  • 1 tbspSambar masala
  • 1 tspchili powder
  • 1/2 tspturmeric powder (haldi)
  • saltto taste

For Tempering

  • 1 tspmustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
  • a fewcurry leaves (kadi patta)

Directions
