Heat oil/ghee in a heavy bottomed pan and add mustard seeds, hing, red dry chili and curry leaves and cook it for about 30 seconds. Add onions and green chilies and cook till the onion becomes soft and translucent. Add tomatoes and let it cook till the tomatoes become mushy and soft. Add spice powders including red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt and lemon juice and cook it for 3 to 5 minutes. Add sooji and the required water and stir continuously to avoid lumps. Cook for about 5 to 8 minutes and once it is cooked properly, switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves. Tomato Upma is a delicious and popular Indian breakfast recipe. This upma has a tangy flavor of tomatoes. It is an excellent breakfast dish, yummy upma is easy, tasty, healthy, and delicious. Follow this recipe.  

Ingredients

  • 1 cupsooji (semolina)
  • 2tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1small onion, finely chopped
  • 1green chili, finely chopped
  • As requiredGhee/oil
  • 1 teaspoonmustard seeds
  • 1dry red chili, cut into half
  • 6 to 7curry leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoonhing (asafoetida)
  • As requiredSalt
  • As requiredWater
  • 1/2 teaspoonred chili powder
