Peel and roughly chop the onions, slit green chilies, red chilies, and set it aside and soak tamarind in water and take the extract. Pressure cook the toor dal and sauteed the radish adding turmeric powder and the required water. Cook for 1-2 whistle in low flame and open the cooker and mash the dal well along with radish. In a pan, heat oil and splutter mustard seeds and methi seeds and take care that the methi seeds should not be burnt Add the onions, curry leaves, green chilies, red chilies, and saute well till onion turns transparent. Add the tamarind extract, sambar powder, turmeric powder,salt and allow it to boil. When it starts to boil, add curry leaves, 2-3 generous pinches of hing and jaggery and boil it for minutes. Add the mashed dal and some water if necessary and cook for 2-3 minutes. Finally, add the coriander leaves, boil it and switch off the flame. Ingredients

  • TamarindBig gooseberry size
  • 1 tspSambar powder
  • 1 no/ 10 nosBig onion or sambar onion
  • 1 noTomato (optional)
  • 3 nosGreen chili
  • 2 nosRed chili
  • 2-3Hing / Asafoetida generous pinches
  • a pinchJaggery
