Heat a tablespoon of oil in the pressure cooker and add in the ginger and garlic and saute for a few seconds until the raw smell goes away. Add the soaked dals, along with the water and stir in the turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, and salt Cover the pressure cooker and cook the dal for 40 min and turn the flame to low and cook for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes turn off the flame and allow the cooker to release its pressure naturally and if you are cooking by saucepan method, then make sure to cook on low flame with the pan covered, add water if required until the dal is very soft and slightly mushy and switch off the flame and keep it aside. In a small pan heat a tablespoon of ghee, add cumin seeds and green chilies and saute for a few seconds until the green chili has turned pale in color. Add this seasoning to the dal and finally check the salt and spice levels and adjust according to your taste. Transfer the dal to a serving dish and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
