Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan and add hing, cumin seeds, and mustard seeds and once it splutters add bay leaf, badi elaichi, green cardamom, star anise, cloves and salted dry green chilies. After 30 seconds, add the green chilies and ginger-garlic paste and cook it for a minute. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook till they turn brown and once done, add the tomatoes and turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Add a little water and cook it for 5 to 8 minutes or cook till the masala is properly cooked. Ingredients

For the Dals

Directions
