Prep Time: 20min Cook time: 30min Ingredients: 1/2 CupChana Dal (Split Bengal Gram),1/2 CupToovar (Arhar) Dal,1/2 CupGreen Moong Dal (Split Green Gram),1 TspCumin Seeds (Jeera),2 Cloves(Laung / Lavang),1 CupBay Leaf (Tej Patta),2 Whole DriedRed Chilies,1/2 TspAsafoetida (Hing),1/2 CupFinely Chopped Onions,2 TspFinely Chopped Green Chilies,2 TbspFinely Chopped Garlic (Lehsun),1 TspChopped Ginger (Adrak),1/2 CupChopped Tomatoes,1 TspChili Powder,1/4 TspTurmeric Powder (Haldi),1 TbspLemon Juice,2 TbspOil,To TasteSalt, For The Garnish 2 TbspFinely Chopped Coriander (Dhania), Instructions: In a bowl soak chana dal, toovar dal, green moong dal in enough water and soak it for 30 min and after 30 min, drain the water from the dal and keep it aside. In a pressure cooker add soaked dals, salt and 2 ½ cups of water and pressure cook for 25 min. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid and keep it aside. Heat the oil in a pan, add the cumin seeds, cloves, bay leaf, red chilies and asafoetida and fry for a few second. Add the onions, green chilies, garlic and ginger and fry for 1 to 2 minutes. Add the tomatoes, chili powder and turmeric powder and stir it well and cook till the oil separates from the masala. Add the cooked dal and 1 cup of water, lemon juice and salt and cook it on a low flame for 10 minutes. Garnish with the chopped coriander leaves and serve it with rice or rice. By Meghna Nath

Ingredients

  • 1/2 CupChana Dal (Split Bengal Gram)
  • 1/2 CupToovar (Arhar) Dal
  • 1/2 CupGreen Moong Dal (Split Green Gram)
  • 1 TspCumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • 2 Cloves(Laung / Lavang)
  • 1 CupBay Leaf (Tej Patta)
  • 2 Whole DriedRed Chilies
  • 1/2 TspAsafoetida (Hing)
  • 1/2 CupFinely Chopped Onions
  • 2 TspFinely Chopped Green Chilies
  • 2 TbspFinely Chopped Garlic (Lehsun)
  • 1 TspChopped Ginger (Adrak)
  • 1/2 CupChopped Tomatoes
  • 1 TspChili Powder
  • 1/4 TspTurmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1 TbspLemon Juice
