Add some water and make a smooth puree and set aside. In kadai, add oil and once it is heated, add tomatoes, green chillies and saute it for 2-3 minutes till the smell of leaves and the tomatoes start breaking down. Add salt, sugar, turmeric powder and tamarind pulp. Mix well. Now add water and mix it well. Add ground masala and mix well. Bring everything to boil. Cook it on low flame for about 5 minutes. For seasoning, heat oil in a pan and add mustard, urad dal and cumin seeds. For sizzling, add chilli and asafoetida and combine it.
