The addition of spices provides a special flavor and aroma to this dal Prep Time: Cook time: Ingredients: 1 cupurad dal, split black gram (washed),Saltto taste,1/4 tspturmeric,1 tbspginger (finely chopped),2 cupswater,1/4 tspgaram masala,1/2 tspmango powder (amchoor), For the seasoning/ tadka 3 tbspghee (clarified butter),1/2 tspcumin seeds (jeera),1/8 tspasafoetida (hing),1green chili (sliced),1 Tbspginger (thinly sliced),1/2 tspred pepper (adjust to taste),4lemon, wedges (for garnishing), Instructions: In a bowl soak urad dal for 20 minutes and you will notice that the dal will be double in volume after soaking and then drain the water from the dal. In a pressure cooker add the soaked dal, 2 cups water,salt, turmeric, and ginger. Cover it with the lid and cook on medium flame for 15 min. Turn off the flame and wait until all the steam has escaped before opening the lid of the pressure cooker. For the Seasoning/tadka Heat ghee in a small saucepan and add the cumin seeds and add the Asafoetida, ginger, and green chilies and fry for a few second. Add red chili powder and 1 tablespoon of water to prevent the spices from burning. Just before serving, reheat the dal and pour the seasoning to the dal and mix it and switch of the flame and transfer it to a serving bowl and garnish with lemon wedges and serve it with rice or roti. Urad Dal Tadka is a popular and authentic dal recipe which is prepared with urad dal and lot of various spices. The addition of spices provides a special flavor and aroma to this dal. You can serve this dal  with roti or rice for a full-felling lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 cupurad dal, split black gram (washed)
  • Saltto taste
  • 1/4 tspturmeric
  • 1 tbspginger (finely chopped)
  • 2 cupswater
  • 1/4 tspgaram masala
  • 1/2 tspmango powder (amchoor)

For the seasoning/ tadka

  • 3 tbspghee (clarified butter)
