In a pressure cooker, add the rice and green moong dal salt and 3 cups of water, mix it well and pressure cook for 20min. Once done, switch off the flame and allow the steam to escape before opening the lid and keep it aside. Heat the oil in a deep kadhai and add the mustard seeds, urad dal and asafoetida and when the mustard seeds crackle, add the garlic and onions and fry on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes. Add the chili powder, turmeric powder and coriander-cumin seeds powder, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute. Add the cooked rice-moong dal mixture, coriander leaves, a little salt, and ½ cup of water, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes and stir occasionally and switch off the flame. Serve it hot with tomato raita and enjoy a hearty meal. Ingredients

  • 1/2 cuprice (chawal)
  • 1/2 cupgreen moong dal (split green gram)
  • 1 tbspoil
