( 2") pieces,1 cupToovar (arhar) dal , soaked for 15 minutes, washed and drained,1/2 tspTurmeric powder (haldi),1/2 cupChopped onions,3/4 cupChopped tomatoes,1 tbspChopped curry leaves (kadi patta),To TasteSalt,1 tbspOil,1 tspMustard seeds ( rai / sarson),1Whole dry Kashmiri red chili , broken into pieces,5 to 6Curry leaves (kadi patta), To Be Ground Into A Coarse Mixture 1/2 cupGrated Coconut,1/2 tbspChopped Garlic (lehsun),2 tbspRoughly Chopped Onions,1/2 tspCumin Seeds (jeera),1 tspChili Powder,1 tbspRoughly Chopped Curry Leaves (kadi patta), Instructions: In a blender, add grated coconut, chopped garlic, onions, cumin seeds, chili powder, curry leaves and also 1/4 cup of water and blend to a coarse paste and keep it aside. In a pressure cooker add the dal , turmeric and 2 cups of water , mix it well and pressure cook for 25 min and once done, switch off the flame and allow the steam to escape, before opening the lid. Transfer the dal in a deep non-stick pan, add the onions, tomatoes, drumstick, chopped curry leaves, salt and 1 cup of water, mix it well and cover it with a lid and cook on a medium flame for 12 minutes and stir occasionally. Add the blended mixture and 1 cup of water, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 7 minutes and stir occasionally, switch off the flame and keep it aside. Heat the oil in a small non-stick pan, add the mustard seeds and fry on medium flame for a few seconds. Add the Kashmiri red chili and curry leaves and fry on a medium flame for a few seconds. Pour this tempering over the prepared dal, mix it nicely and serve it hot with rice. Tasty and Easy Drumstick Dal Recipe

Drumstick Dal is healthy and prefect vegetarian dal dish. Drumstick is very chewy and sumptuous in taste. It is a great way to just bring in some variation to your daily dal. This dal has a nice taste, flavor and aroma of drumsticks. Drumstick is a rich source of calcium, phosphorous, and vitamin C. It is best accompanied with hot rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 cupDrumsticks, cut into 50 mm. ( 2") pieces
  • 1 cupToovar (arhar) dal , soaked for 15 minutes, washed and drained
  • 1/2 tspTurmeric powder (haldi)
  • 1/2 cupChopped onions
  • 3/4 cupChopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbspChopped curry leaves (kadi patta)
  • To TasteSalt
  • 1 tbspOil
  • 1 tspMustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
  • 1Whole dry Kashmiri red chili , broken into pieces
  • 5 to 6Curry leaves (kadi patta)

To Be Ground Into A Coarse Mixture

  • 1/2 cupGrated Coconut
  • 1/2 tbspChopped Garlic (lehsun)
  • 2 tbspRoughly Chopped Onions
  • 1/2 tspCumin Seeds (jeera)
  • 1 tspChili Powder
  • 1 tbspRoughly Chopped Curry Leaves (kadi patta)

Directions

  • In a blender, add grated coconut, chopped garlic, onions, cumin seeds, chili powder, curry leaves and also 1/4 cup of water and blend to a coarse paste and keep it aside.
  • In a pressure cooker add the dal , turmeric and 2 cups of water , mix it well and pressure cook for 25 min and once done, switch off the flame and allow the steam to escape, before opening the lid.

  • Add the blended mixture and 1 cup of water, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 7 minutes and stir occasionally, switch off the flame and keep it aside.
  • Heat the oil in a small non-stick pan, add the mustard seeds and fry on medium flame for a few seconds.
  • Add the Kashmiri red chili and curry leaves and fry on a medium flame for a few seconds.
  • Pour this tempering over the prepared dal, mix it nicely and serve it hot with rice.
